What is the World Congress of Ophthalmology? What is the most prestigious international event in the sector you probably already know, but, to do a little review, we tell you that it was held for the first time in 1857 and that, during all this time, it had only been celebrated once in Spain in 1933, in Madrid. This edition number 34 in Barcelona is expected to attract more than 15,000 ophthalmologists and optometrists from 130 countries.
Practical information
When is the International Ophthalmology Congress held? You will already have it in the agenda. From June 16th to 19th, 2018. This is from Saturday to Tuesday. Ideal to take a few days of vacation and stay for sightseeing in the Catalan capital: Gaudí, tapas route and restaurants and, of course, the beach at a time of year with a great weather.
Where? The World Congress of Ophthalmology will occupy pavilions 6, 7 and 8 of the Gran Vía venue of the Fira de Barcelona.
How to get there?
Railways
To get there, one of the best options is to take the Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) in Plaza España. Any of the lines S8, S33, R6, R5, S4 arrive there. The stop is called Europe / Fira and they are less than 10 minutes.
Metro
Line 9 Sud of TMB has stops at Fira and Europa / Fira.
Bus
You can take any of the following lines in the direction of Hospitalet: H12, 46, 65 and 79.

What to see in the WOC? There are three days of presentations, debates, work groups and case studies around the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment and care of eye diseases.
In total, the program includes 300 scientific sessions and 1,200 research studies presented.
The venue will also have an exhibition area in which more than 200 companies from the pharmaceutical and instrumental industry related to the field of ophthalmology participate.
The WOC is organized by the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology (SEO) and the European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE), with the collaboration of the Spanish Society of Implant-Refractive Ocular Surgery (SECOIR), the Catalan Society of Ophthalmology and the Barraquer Institute.
